Commander Michael J. Tenaglia


Raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Cdr. Michael J. Tenaglia graduated from the University of Maryland in 2010 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Nuclear Engineering. 
 
Cdr. Tenaglia began his career onboard USS Curts (FFG 38) where he served as the Fire Control and Force Protection Officer. While on Curts, he participated in anti-narcotic operations and deployed to 4th Fleet. In November 2013, he reported to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN71) where he served as the Reactor Propulsion Division Officer and the Assistant Reactor Training Officer. During his tour, he completed an around the world deployment, participating in Operation Inherent Resolve. Cdr. Tenaglia’s first Department Head tour was in USS Nitze (DDG 94) where he served as Operations Officer and deployed to the CENTCOM AOR with the with the ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group. His second Department Head tour was in USS Carl Vinson (CVN70) and deployed to 3rd, 5th, and 7th fleet focusing on Indo-Pacific maritime security operations.
 
Cdr. Tenaglia’s post Division Officer shore tour was at the University of Maryland where he taught navigation and seamanship as a ROTC instructor and earned his Master of Business Administration Degree. After his Department Head tours, Cdr. Tenaglia reported to U.S Fleet Forces’ Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board (NPEB) as a Junior Board Member. Following NPEB, he reported to Mariner Skills Training Center Atlantic, where he currently serves as the Executive Officer. 
 
Cdr. Tenaglia’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as various unit awards.

Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
