CARIBBEAN SEA
CARIBBEAN SEA (July 15, 2023) UNITAS multinational forces work aboard Peruvian Navy ship, BAP Pisco (AMP 156), discuss the ships current operations as it conducts a series of drills and maneuvers while participating in UNITAS LXIV, July 15, 2023. UNITAS is the world’s longest-running maritime exercise. Hosted this year by Colombia, it brings together multinational forces from 20 partner nations, including 26 warships/vessels, three submarines, 25 aircraft (fixed wing/helicopter) and approximately 7,000 people. The exercise trains forces in joint maritime operations that enhance tactical proficiency and increase interoperability with the presence of unmanned air, surface, and submarine systems. Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Commandant Col. James Kievit presented Cryptologic Technician Interpretive 1st Class Austin Gentry, a Military Language Instructor at Information Warfare Training Command Monterey, with the Joint Service Achievement Medal during a ceremony at Cook Hall on July 21, 2023. Gentry was recognized for his exceptional achievements and selection as the DLIFLC’s Military Language Instructor of the Quarter for third quarter for fiscal year 2023.

(July 12, 2023) Naval ROTC New Student Indoctrination (NSI) Cycle 2 midshipman candidates man the hose sponsons during firefighting application training at Recruit Training Command (RTC), July 12, 2023. Upon completion of NSI, the candidates will start their freshman year of the NROTC program at colleges and universities nationwide this fall. NSI is an indoctrination program hosted at RTC, and provides midshipmen with a common military training orientation. NSI provides basic training in five warfighting fundamentals - firefighting, damage control, seamanship, watchstanding and small arms handling and marksmanship - to begin creating basically trained and smartly disciplined future Navy and Marine Corps officers. NROTC is overseen by Commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), Rear Adm. Jennifer S.
