Prior to departing your current duty station, students should verify that their Government Travel Credit Card (GTCC) is in a Mission Critical status. All students should report no later than 0900 one working day prior to the class convening date.

Upon arrival, all students should immediately check-in at the NDSTC Quarterdeck, 350 South Crag Road, Panama City Beach, FL 32407.

The NDSTC Officer of the Deck (OOD) will stamp all student orders, verify billeting arrangements based upon individual orders, and provide guidance for the next morning’s muster.

For indoctrination day, which is day one of class, students should arrive at 0600 in the appropriate dress uniform (blues or whites), proceed to the assigned classroom (posted on the quarterdeck), and stand-by for a uniform inspection.

For after-hours check-in, all students should call the NDSTC OOD (850) 596-0499 for order verification, billeting arrangements, and mustering guidance.

All students should check-in with the NDSTC Student Control Office (room 103) prior to class convening. All students should have a copy of their approved orders.

For travel delays or issues prior to arrival, all students should immediately contact the NDSTC Quarterdeck (850) 234-4651, DSN 436-4651, or the NDSTC OOD (850) 596-0499.

Government Quarters are available for all Military Personnel. Barracks are located at:

Panama City Beach, FL 32407.

All Great Lakes “A School” students should expect to live in the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ).

Students may be billeted with other students due to lodging availability or based upon individual orders.

For Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) students, call the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites (NGIS) Panama City at (850) 588-0753 or book online.

For commercial lodging based upon individual orders, a Certificate of Non-Availability (CNA) is required prior to obtaining accommodations locally. Students should ensure that the nightly cost is below the per diem amount and that all receipts are retained for travel claim processing.

The Sea Shore General Mess is available for all military personnel (Officer and Enlisted) and is near the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ).

General Mess meal schedule
Monday – Friday: Breakfast 0500-0700, Lunch 1100-1300, Dinner 1630-1800
Weekends and Holidays: Brunch 0930-1200, Dinner 1630-1800.

All enlisted Navy students will receive a Meal Pass upon check-in with NDSTC Student Control.

Students on Meal Per Diem status must be stated on approved orders.

Students may be authorized commuted rations (COMRATS) while attached to NDSTC based upon individual orders.

Students may be authorized a rental car based upon individual orders while attached to NDSTC. Students will maintain all receipts for travel claim purposes.

Private Operated Vehicles (POVs) are permitted on board with the possession of a valid driver's license, proof of ownership, title, and automobile insurance. Student parking is restricted to the barracks parking lot and student parking north of the command.

Leave may be granted during authorized holiday leave periods, when an emergency has been verified by the Red Cross, or on case-by-case basis as needed.

The WINTER period runs December through March.

The SUMMER period runs April through November.

Officers/CPOs and enlisted Uniform of the Day is the Navy Working Uniform (NWU).

Seasonal service dress uniform is required for graduation ceremony for all hands.

  • Service Dress Blues or Summer Whites (seasonal)
  • Navy Working Uniform (NWU) – prescribed uniform of the day for daily training (2 qty)
  • Boots - one pair of issue boots (2 pair combat recommended)
  • Running shoes - 1 pair required (2 pair recommended)
  • White ankle socks
  • White T-shirt (crew neck) (6 qty)
  • Navy sweatshirt/pants (seasonal)
  • Watch cap
  • Towel (2 qty)
  • Students who wear eyeglasses must have two military issue pairs
  • For students requiring prescription mask lenses: mask must be NON-TINTED, black, low volume, with certified and tempered glass.

  • For Female Students: Sports brassier (black) (2 qty) and/or one-piece swimsuit (Navy blue/black) that will not slip off or shift during rigorous exercise.

Students will need to prepare to pass the Physical Screening Test for their prospective rate in accordance with MILPERSPAN 1220-410. This test is conducted on the 2nd day of training and must be successfully completed. It is highly recommended that students are capable of meeting more the minimum standards.

WARNING: Any preparatory training conducted holding your breath or submerging underwater MUST be conducted with a Safety Observer or buddy. If at a pool, the Life Guard must also be notified. Hyperventilation is NEVER authorized!

Mask, Fin, Snorkel:
1. Students should be comfortable breathing through snorkel while on the surface with head submerged.

2. Students should be comfortable filling mask with water while submerged and then forcefully exhaling to clear their mask.

3. Students should be comfortable filling mask and snorkel with water while submerged and then forcefully exhaling to clear their mask and snorkel without their face breaking the surface and then continuing to breathe comfortably with face down in the water.

4. Students should be comfortable swimming with booties and military type fins while breathing through a snorkel with and without a mask.

5. Students should practice swimming while intermittently flooding the snorkel with water by submerging 2 to 3 ft, surfacing without their face breaking the surface of the water, then clearing the snorkel via forceful exhale, and then continuing to breathe comfortably from the snorkel (porpoising).

6. Students should be comfortable retrieving their mask and snorkel from the bottom of the pool (12 ft), donning the mask and snorkel on bottom, clearing the mask, ascending to surface, then clearing the snorkel via forceful exhale upon reaching surface without breaking the surface of the water with face, and then continuing to breathe comfortably.

FLOATING:
1. Students should be comfortable floating on surface while exerting minimal effort with their hands held loosely together behind the back and ankles crossed.

2. Students should practice fully inflating the lungs on the water surface while floating in a relaxed manner, utilize a gentle leg thrust (dolphin kick) to breach the surface, and gently rolling head to the side to take a breath.

FINNING:
1. Students should be comfortable swimming on your back up to 1,000 yards with booties, military type fins, and a mask.

2. Students should practice for finning by focusing on flutter kicking outside of the water using booties and military type fins, if available, or some form of weight/resistance.

3. Students should practice finning on their back in any available pool or open water.

TREADING:
1. Students should be comfortable treading water barefoot, wearing only booties, and while wearing booties and military type fins for an extended amount of time.

2. Students should practice treading water while wearing booties and military type fins with easily jettisoned weights, i.e., hold them in your hands.

UNDERWATER SWIMMING:
WARNING: Any preparatory training conducted holding your breath or submerging underwater MUST be conducted with a safety observer or buddy. If at a pool, the Life Guard must also be notified.  Hyperventilation is NEVER authorized!

1. Students should be comfortable swimming submerged underwater for a distance up to 30 yards barefoot and repeatedly swimming underwater 15-yard lengths while barefoot, wearing booties, and while wearing booties and military type fins for several intervals.
