Navy Officer Development School (ODS), located at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island, is one of five officer training programs designed to prepare individuals for the responsibilities of a commissioned officer in the world’s most powerful navy. This intensive five-week course provides a comprehensive foundation in naval operations, leadership, and professional duties essential for a successful Navy career. ODS challenges candidates morally, mentally, and physically, ensuring they are prepared to lead sailors and fulfill their responsibilities worldwide. The curriculum includes key areas such as Naval Leadership, Administration, Organization, Sea Power, Military Law, Indoctrination, Warfare, and Damage Control. Leadership training is further reinforced through case studies and instructor-led scenarios, fostering the critical decision-making skills necessary for success in the fleet. Throughout the course, candidates will be tested on their adherence to the Navy's core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
