TRAVEL TO NAVAL STATION NEWPORT


If Flying:

Upon arrival at T.F. Green Airport (Providence/Warwick, RI, website*):

Please make your way to the ground transportation in the baggage claim area.

The airport is 29 miles from the base. Taxi fare from the airport to Naval Station Newport is approximately $100. Officer Training Command does not endorse any Taxi service; however be advised that not all Taxi companies have access to Naval Station Newport. Orange Cab and Newport Cabs have been able to get on base in the past - however be advised that not all Taxi companies have access to Naval Station Newport.  Taxis without base access authorization can go no further than the main gate of the Naval Station. Verify with the Taxi driver or taxi company that the driver has full access to the base. Lyft and Uber do not have base access.

**Every attempt should be made to fly into TF Green Airport. A rental car from the airport is not authorized unless specifically stated in your military orders. Students will be reimbursed for taxi fare.

Automobiles:

You must be protected by liability insurance for personal injury of a minimum of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $10,000 property damage before you are permitted to operate the vehicle on Naval Station Newport. Parking is limited and will be at some distance from your living quarters. Students are not allowed to utilize staff parking areas.

Driving of POVs will not be authorized during training. Opportunities to start car may be available during liberty hours.

If driving to Naval Station Newport, the directions below are provided. Use the following as the destination address: King Hall (291 Kollmeyer St; Newport RI 02841). You will need to modify the route to use Admiral Kalbfus Rd to take you to King Hall (Bldg 291) via Gate 1 (Front Gate).
 

From the South (New York, NY):

If you drive to Newport from the south, use Interstate 95 to Exit 3, then Route 138 East across the Newport Bridge (toll of $4.00). Bear left after the bridge and turn right at the first traffic light (Admiral Kalbfus Road). Proceed under the highway overpass to the traffic circle. Continue through the traffic circle (2nd right) about three-tenths of a mile to Gate 1 of Naval Station, Newport. You will be required to show government issued ID and your orders to get onto base. Turn right at the next intersection (Perry Road). Following the road you will cross over a bridge and come to an intersection with a four-way stop. You will be required to show government issued ID and your orders to get onto base. Turn left at the intersection onto Meyerkord Street. Go straight, passing through one stop sign. There will be a large football field to your left. At the intersection of Meyerkord and Kollmeyer is King Hall and Callaghan Hall. You will report to King Hall quarterdeck.
 

From the North (Boston, MA):

If you approach Newport from the north, use Interstate 93 to Route 24 South to Route 114 (West Main Road), continue south to Coddington Highway (a Burger King will be on the left). Turn right onto Coddington Highway and proceed approximately 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Exit at Admiral Kalbfus Road (first exit on right out of traffic circle) about three-tenths of a mile to Gate 1 of Naval Station, Newport. You will be required to show government issued ID and your orders to get onto base. Turn right at the next intersection (Perry Road). Following the road you will cross over a bridge and come to an intersection with a four-way stop. Turn left at the intersection onto Meyerkord Street. Go straight, passing through one stop sign. There will be a large football field to your left. At the intersection of Meyerkord and Kollmeyer is King Hall and Callaghan Hall. You will report to King Hall quarterdeck.

 

CHECK-IN


Officer Candidate School (OCS)

Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire. OCS check in is on Sunday. Arrive before your no later than report time, but not later than 0900. Ask the Base gate guard for directions to OCS and follow the posted signs that read OCS Arrivals. This will take you to Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.

If arriving in Newport prior to the Sunday report date, you will need to make your own lodging accommodations as OCS does not house students prior to the designated report date. You can find lodging information at the bottom of the page.

For the safety of staff and students, any member who reports for OCS and is not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or is displaying COVID-19 symptoms will be placed in a Restriction of Movement (ROM) status. Fully vaccinated is defined as a person who has received all required doses of the COVID-19 vaccine plus 14 days. ROM lasts 14 days in which the member will be isolated to a hatch and 3 meals a day will be provided. During the ROM period, members will be authorized 2 hours a day, 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon, to workout outside of their hatches in a socially distant manner. Refer to the Required and Recommended Items Tab for suggestions on how to pack should a ROM period be required.
 

Officer Development School (ODS)

Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire and report to King Hall, Building 291 Quarter Deck (Main Entrance).  Report no later than 1100 on Sunday. You will be directed to your quarters (room) and will be given additional guidance from your Class Team on Sunday afternoon.

Lodging in King Hall is available upon check-in.  If you have questions understanding your orders, contact your detailer or program manager. If you continue to require clarification of your orders or if you are going to be late please contact your Class Team directly or OTCN CDO (401)-841-4321.  

Limited Duty Officer/Warrant Officer/Chief Warrant Officer (LDO/WO/CWO)

You will report to Callaghan Hall (Building 370), Room 301, at 0700 in your NWUs with the required paperwork listed under the Required Paperwork/Items "tab" on the LDO webpage.
