Travel to Naval Station Newport

If Flying:
Upon arrival at T.F. Green Airport (Providence/Warwick, RI), make your way to the ground transportation area in the baggage claim section. The airport is approximately 29 miles from Naval Station Newport, and taxi fares to the base are around $100. While Officer Training Command does not endorse any specific taxi service, please be aware that not all taxi companies have access to Naval Station Newport.

In the past, Orange Cab and Newport Cabs have been authorized to enter the base, but this is subject to change. Always confirm with your driver that they have full base access. Taxis without access will drop you off at the main gate, and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft do not have base access at all.

For a list of available taxi and shuttle services, visit: PVD Airport Taxi and Shuttle Services.

**Note:** Every attempt should be made to fly into T.F. Green Airport. Rental cars from the airport are not authorized unless explicitly stated in your orders. Students will be reimbursed for taxi fares.

Automobiles

If you plan to drive to Naval Station Newport, ensure your vehicle is covered by liability insurance with minimum coverage of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $10,000 for property damage before you are permitted to operate it on base. Parking is limited and located some distance from living quarters, and students are prohibited from using staff parking areas.

Personal vehicles (POVs) cannot be used during training, but opportunities to start your car may be available during liberty hours. Follow the directions provided below to reach King Hall (291 Kollmeyer St, Newport RI 02841) using Gate 1 (Front Gate).

Driving Directions

From the South (New York, NY):
Take Interstate 95 to Exit 3, then follow Route 138 East across the Newport Bridge (toll: $4.00). Bear left after the bridge and turn right at the first traffic light (Admiral Kalbfus Road). Proceed under the highway overpass to the traffic circle, taking the second exit to continue straight for about three-tenths of a mile to Gate 1 of Naval Station Newport. You will need to show a government-issued ID and your orders to gain entry.

Once through the gate, turn right onto Perry Road, cross a bridge, and proceed to a four-way stop. Turn left onto Meyerkord Street. Continue straight, passing one stop sign, and you will see King Hall and Callaghan Hall. Report to King Hall quarterdeck upon arrival.

From the North (Boston, MA):
Take Interstate 93 to Route 24 South, then follow Route 114 (West Main Road) south to Coddington Highway (look for the Burger King on the left). Turn right onto Coddington Highway and continue for about 1.6 miles to the traffic circle. Exit onto Admiral Kalbfus Road (first right), then follow the same directions as above to Gate 1.

Check-In Process

Officer Candidate School (OCS):
Upon arrival, check in wearing appropriate civilian attire. Check-in for OCS is on Sunday, and you must arrive before 0900. Ask the gate guard for directions to OCS, and follow signs for OCS Arrivals, which will lead you to Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.

If you arrive before Sunday, you must arrange your own lodging. For lodging information, please refer to the section at the bottom of this page.

Members who are not fully vaccinated or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will be placed in Restriction of Movement (ROM) status, lasting 14 days.
