Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble plays a wide variety of music including patriotic favorites, movie music, marches, Americana, Broadway showstoppers, and traditional wind band literature. The Wind Ensemble is particularly well suited for audiences of all ages and regularly performs for public outreach concerts, regional festivals, educational outreach concerts and clinics, and cultural events.

Ceremonial Band

The Ceremonial Band performs patriotic music and marches while representing the United States Navy at official ceremonies, public patriotic events, and educational outreach performances and clinics.

Horizon Popular Music Group

“Horizon” Popular Music Group entertains audiences with pop music including today’s Top 40 hits, Classic Rock, Motown, Rhythm and Blues, Country, Funk, and Jazz. The Popular Music Group performs public outreach concerts and educational outreach concerts and clinics, and it is particularly well suited to entertain recruiting age audiences.

Parade Band

The Navy Band Great Lakes Parade Band is in high demand to participate in street parades across the Midwest.

Jazz/Protocol Combo

The Jazz/Protocol combo plays a variety of music from jazz standards to unique arrangement of contemporary popular music to support military protocol engagements, educational outreach concerts and clinics, and public concerts.

Great Lakes Navy Band - Brass Ambassadors

Brass Ambassadors Brass Quintet

The Brass Quintet performs a wide range of music including classical standards, light jazz, marches, and patriotic favorites. The Brass Quintet is well suited for military and civic ceremonies, public concerts, and educational outreach concerts and clinics.

"Fairwinds" Woodwind Quintet

The Woodwind Quintet performs a wide range of music including classical standards, marches, and patriotic favorites. The Woodwind Quintet is well suited for small military and civic ceremonies, public concerts, and educational outreach concerts and clinics.

"Liberty Call" Brass Band

The “Liberty Call” Brass Band entertains audiences with a wide variety of music from New Orleans style brass band favorites to unique takes on today’s Top 40 hits. The Brass Band performs public outreach concerts and educational outreach concerts and clinics, and it is particularly well suited to entertain recruiting age audiences.

Comprised of forty-five professional musicians, Navy Band Great Lakes provides musical support for military and public engagements throughout an 11-state area of responsibility including all or parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. These musicians perform more than 550 missions per year through support for military ceremonies, student education, and public performances. Navy Band Great Lakes large ensembles include the Wind Ensemble, Ceremonial Band, Parade Band, and popular music group Horizon, while small units include the Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet and Jazz Combo. Navy Band Great Lakes also provides bugling and solo vocalist to support permissible events.
