Navy Band Great Lakes
Established in 1911 and based on board Naval Station Great Lakes, Navy Band Great Lakes is one of 11 official U.S. Navy bands worldwide. Under the operational command of Commander, Naval Service Training Command, “Americas Band” serves as the Navy’s musical ambassadors to the Midwest and inspires patriotism, elevates esprit de corps, enhances Navy awareness and public relations, supports recruiting and retention efforts, preserves the nation’s musical heritage, and projects a positive image of the Navy.

The band accomplishes its mission by providing musical support for weekly Recruit Training Command graduations, official functions, military and civic ceremonies, community outreach initiatives, recruiting and retention efforts, and public performances throughout a nine-state Area of Responsibility. Navy Band Great Lakes’ primary musical ensembles include the parade and ceremonial bands, the Wind Ensemble concert band, “Horizon” popular music group, “Liberty Call” brass band, “Brass Ambassadors” and “Fairwinds” chamber quintets, and various protocol ensembles. Ensembles perform a wide range of music including patriotic, classical, big band swing, New Orleans brass band, and top-40 hits.
