Travel and Check-In

Travel to Naval Station Newport

Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to Naval Station Newport and King Hall. Flying into T.F. Green Airport (Providence/Warwick, RI) is recommended. OTCN does not provide a command duty van for student transport from the airport to the base. Taxis are available, but not all services have base access; verify with the driver or company if they are authorized for base entry. Rideshare services are not allowed base access. Students should keep transportation receipts for reimbursement at their ultimate duty station.

To enter the base, students will need a CAC card or a government-issued ID and their orders. For additional travel details, consult the Officer Training Command Newport - Travel/Check-In. For guest base access, refer to FAQ #22.

If driving a personal vehicle, please refer to the student parking map located under the "Additional Documents and Maps" tab.

Check-In Procedures
  • Upon arriving at Naval Station Newport, proceed directly to King Hall located at 291 Kollmeyer Street, Newport, RI 02841. Drop-offs are allowed in front of King Hall; however, loitering is not permitted. Temporary parking is available at the rear of King Hall for loading and unloading only.
  • Enter King Hall through the double doors to the quarterdeck (lobby) and proceed to the front desk, which is staffed 24/7. Present your orders and ID (CAC or government-issued ID) to the watchperson, who will verify them and have you sign the check-in roster. Please verify your rank and name spelling on the roster.
  • Following check-in, you will be directed to the fourth floor, where your assigned room is located. There are six wings on the fourth floor, each with a room roster posted at the entry door. Locate your room and begin unpacking your belongings.
  • Further instructions regarding pre-class activities will be posted on the fourth floor.
  • After check-in, students are permitted to leave the base for meals. Meals are available at the galley (Ney Hall) where a debit or credit card is required for payment.
  • Students are responsible for their meals until 1100 on check-in Sunday. You may bring non-refrigerated, healthy snacks to store in your room’s locker.
